UK says Russia has confirmed the use of ‘vacuum bombs’ during Ukraine invasion
Home > News Shots > World newsThe UK’s Ministry of Defense claimed on Wednesday that Russia has admitted to using “vacuum bombs” in Ukraine.
Vacuum Bombs
Considered one of Russia's worst weapons (excluding nuclear weapons), this vacuum bomb is destructive. This is why this type of bomb is called the "father of all bombs". This vacuum bomb is usually fired by thermobaric rockets.
Impact
These bombs are capable of striking at a diameter of about 600 meters. Experts say that the destruction of a vacuum bomb is equivalent to the destruction of 44 tons of TNT.
These will quickly expel the oxygen wherever it is placed to explode. The U.S. Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) has warned that the lungs, internal organs and ears could be severely damaged.
In a tweet, the British agency said Russia confirmed it has used a mobile rocket-launching system typically equipped with the thermobaric warheads, which suck in the air around targets and can rupture their lungs.
“The Russian [Ministry of Defense] has confirmed the use of the TOS-1A weapon system in Ukraine. The TOS-1A uses thermobaric rockets, creating incendiary and blast effects,” the tweet said.
Russia's military has confirmed that Ukraine is using these high-speed bombs, which have been banned by a number of organizations around the world.
