Tupac Amaru Shakur was born in Harlem, New York, USA. The son of Afeni Shakur and Billy Garland, active members of the Black Panthers party in the 1960s and 1970s, he was an avid hack and letter writer.

Auction
Letters written by Tupac in his teens came up for auction on March 30 at Sotheby's, a London-based auction house. At the age of 11, Tupac wrote haiku for his godfather, who was imprisoned for working with the Black Panthers. The manuscript of the haiku, signed "Tupac Shakur, Future Freedom Fighter", sold for $ 302,400 (Rs. 2.2 crore in Indian currency).
Love Letters
Love letters written by Tupac at a young age also went on sale at the auction. These are said to have been obtained from a woman named Cosima. Among them were letters written by Tupac at the time to Jada Pinkett, the wife of Hollywood actor Will Smith.
