Chinese man lives in airport for 14 years - here's why!
Home > News Shots > World newsA man has been living at an airport in China for 14 years without going home. The reason he said has left everyone stunned.
Wei Jianguo hails from Beijing, China, and has lived at the international airport for the past 14 years. Jianguo, who is staying at Terminal 2 at the International Airport, says he always has no worries about being surrounded by passengers.
What is the reason?
Wei Jianguo is a smoker and alcoholic. His family has strongly opposed this. He said, "I can't go back home because I have no freedom there. My family told me if I wanted to stay, I had to quit smoking and drinking. If I couldn't do that, I had to give them all my monthly government allowance of 1,000 yuan ($150). But then how would I buy my cigarettes and alcohol?"
Authorities even once had ordered him to leave the airport at Christmas 2017. They also took him to his home, about 20 kilometers from the airport. But he returned to the airport a few days later and started staying.
Freedom
He said he had some freedom at the airport and was not harassed by authorities after that. He sleeps at the airport and goes to the market in the morning to buy and stock up on baked bacon breads, some groceries and bottles of liquor. This strange man is adjusting his expenses with the monthly allowance given by the Government.
