According to the latest annual Cost of Living Survey published by the global HR consulting firm, Mercer, Chennai has been listed as 144th most expensive city in the world in 2018 for expatriates. Last year, the city had taken the 135th spot in the list.


The survey revealed that Mumbai (55) is India’s most expensive city, followed by New Delhi (103) and Chennai (144). However, Kolkata (182) and Bengaluru (170) fared better in the list with least expenses. The ranks are listed as of March 2018.


Hong Kong dethroned Luanda as the world’s costliest city, followed by Tokyo and Zurich in second and third positions, respectively. Singapore moved one place up to the fourth spot in the list. Among the top five, Asia hosts the world’s top four most expensive cities for expatriates.
