World Health Organisation on Monday released a manual classifying diseases and officially listed gaming as a mental disorder. Reportedly, this is the first time gaming is listed as a disorder along with hoarding.

According to the manual, gaming disorder was described as, "Gaming disorder is characterized by a pattern of persistent or recurrent gaming behavior, which may be online or offline, manifested by: 1) impaired control over gaming; 2) increasing priority given to gaming to the extent that gaming takes precedence over other life interests and daily activities; and 3) continuation or escalation of gaming despite the occurrence of negative consequences.”

Reportedly, the disorder affects only three per cent of the gaming community. WHO addressed gaming disorder to bring more attention to it, so that people can take preventive measures.
