"Virus may Never go Away," warns World Health Organisation; Says, "May stay forever like HIV!"
Home > News Shots > World newsThe world Health organization on Wednesday said that the coronavirus could become an endemic just like HIV and the populations across the globe will have to learn to live with it.
As countries are beginning to gradually lift the Lockdown, the World Health Organization warned that wiping out COVID19 completely might not be possible.
"It is important to put this on the table: this virus may become just another endemic virus in our communities, and this virus may never go away. HIV has not gone away, but we have come to terms with the virus," WHO emergencies expert Mike Ryan told an online briefing.
He said that the world should have control over the disease and take massive effort. He described the possibility of finding a vaccine as a “massive moonshot”.
Almost 100 potential vaccines have been developed and gone through several clinical trials. However, experts have spoken about the difficulty of finding one that is effective against coronavirus.
According to Al Jazeera’s report, WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus added: "The trajectory is in our hands, and it's everybody's business, and we should all contribute to stop this pandemic.”
Ryan also condemned the attacks on healthcare workers. He said more than 35 of them were “quire serious” and such incidents were recorded across 11 countries in April alone.
He noted that it is important to find a vaccine since it will be a chance for humanity to take a major step forward.
