The United States of America withdrew from the United Nations Human Rights Council on Tuesday citing the council's bias towards Israel. The announcement was conveyed by the US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and US Ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley.

Haley criticised members like Egypt, China and Russia for not making any efforts to reform the body. She also pointed out to member countries like China, Cuba and Venezuela and said, "Look at the council membership, and you see an appalling disrespect for the most basic rights."

After Donald Trump's rule, the US has pulled out from a few multilateral agreements like the 2015 Iran nuclear deal and the Paris climate agreement. Haley reportedly informed that withdrawing from the UNHRC "is not a retreat from our human rights commitments."
