Former Indian Athlete Arrested With 1st and 3rd Degree Murder; Police Reveal Chilling Details!
Home > News Shots > World newsIn a shocking case, a former Asian Championship bronze medalist for India, has been charged and arrested with murder in the US after killing his wife and mother.
The man had been identified as Iqbal Singh, 62, who called police on Sunday (August 23) morning from Delaware County in Pennsylvania to admit his crime.
As per the Philadelphia Inquirer report, when the police arrived at Singh's home in Newtown Township, they found Singh covered in blood and suffering from self-inflicted stab wounds. There were also two bodies found in the house.
At Singh's house, the police found his mother, Nasib Kaur, lying dead on the first floor with her throat slit. While his wife, Jaspal Kaur, in the same condition. Both women were pronounced dead at the crime scene. Till now the motive in the killings is unclear.
Singh has been currently charged with first- and third-degree murder and remains in custody; he has also denied bail given the nature of the charges. As per US media reports, he was working as a taxicab driver.
Highlighting about his career, the former shot-putter won a bronze medal at the 1983 Asian Athletics Championship, which was held in Kuwait. It was his biggest achievement of his sporting career before he moved to the US.
"At this point, there's been no previous criminal contact with this individual and so the mystery of why this happened is still a mystery," Delaware County District Attorney Jack Stollsteimer said. Singh has been currently taken to an area hospital for the treatment of self-inflicted injuries.
A chilling update in this case made headlines when a phone call between Singh and his son rushed officers to his home. "I killed both of them. I killed your mother and grandmother. Call the police to come get me," he told his son over the phone.
"He then talked to his daughter, who was with her brother and told her the same story. That's when law enforcement was contacted, they arrived and they found Mr Singh covered in blood, injured. But they also found the two deceased individuals in the home," Stollsteimer said.
