US Records Highest COVID-19 Deaths In 24 Hours, New York Touches 9/11 Fatality Count 

The United States took the world by shock after recording nearly 1,500 deaths from COVID-19. These fatalities took place between Thursday and Friday, according to the Johns Hopkins University tracker. This was the worst 24-hour death toll ever since the pandemic outbreak.   

As per the Johns Hopkins University tracker, there were nearly 1,480 deaths between 8:30 pm (0030 GMT) Thursday and the same time Friday. Looking at the total number of people who have died in the United States is now 7,406. 

Among most of the cities in US, New York has been worst affected with new COVID-19 cases everyday with more than 500 deaths in a single day. The 24-hour death toll was 562, raising the New York state total to 2,935 fatalities. This new count of deaths has brought the total to nearly 3,000, which is almost the same tally to September 11, 2001, attacks.

Meanwhile, Governor Andrew Cuomo said, "the 24-hour death toll was 562, raising the New York state total to 2,935 fatalities. It was the highest single increase in the number of deaths since we started."

"Personally, it's hard to go through this all day, and then it's hard to stay up all night watching those numbers come in ... and know that you're in charge of the ship at this time," Cuomo added.

As per a Reuters report, New York City is running short of supply, they are yet to receive a resupply of 3,000 ventilators which are needed by next week.
