Trump makes big Announcement to join India's fight against COVID19; Reveals why he feels "Great" about Indians!
Home > News Shots > World newsPresident Donald Trump recently announced that the US will donate ventilators to India. He highlighted the close ties India and US shares and called Prime Minister Narendra Modi his “good friend”.
Trump Tweeted on Friday stating that, “I am proud to announce that the United States will donate ventilators to our friends in India.”
"We are sending a lot of ventilators to India. I spoke to Prime Minister Modi. We are sending quite a few ventilators to India. We have tremendous supply of ventilators," Trump told the media.
The White House is yet to give details about the number of ventilators that would be sent to India.
At Trump’s request, India exported 50 million hydroxychloroquine tablets to the US last month to help the country in fighting the pandemic.
Earlier, Trump praised India and Prime Minister Modi. "India has been so great and as you know your prime minister has been a very good friend of mine. I just got back a short while ago from India and we are very much together," the president said, referring to his visit to New Delhi, Ahmedabad and Agra in February.
On Friday, he announced that US and India and cooperating and trying to develop a vaccine for COVID19. "Together we will beat the invisible enemy! We stand with India and Prime Minister Modi during this pandemic," he said.
He also took the opportunity to recognize the work done by Indian- Americans as “great” and especially praised scientists and researchers who are playing a significant role in contributing a vaccine.
"We have a tremendous Indian population in the United States and many of the people that you are talking about are working on the vaccine too. Great scientists and researchers," Donald Trump told reporters in the Rose Garden of the White House on Friday.
The coronavirus, has taken over 3,00,000 lives with 4.5 million confirmed infections across the globe so far. The US alone has reported over 87,000 COVID-19 deaths.
