Top US Officials Voice Against Trump: What is happening in US?
Home > News Shots > World newsThe allegations surround America's Republican President Donald Trump for using his influence to take advantage of the bilateral ties between Ukraine and the US. Two top US officials- Gordon D Sondland, the Ambassador to the European Union and Laura Cooper, a deputy assistant secretary of defense, US testified against Donald Trump for stopping the aid provided to Ukraine.
While the impeachment proceedings against Donald Trump are being carried out by the the House Intelligence Committee, Sondland testified against Trump saying that ' Trump wanted us to act against our will in Ukraine Matters'. Further, he quoted Rudy Giuliani (US politician and attorney) and said he worked with Giuliani as per Trump's order to stop security assistance provided to Ukraine.
Reportedly Trump called the Ukrainian president on, Volodymyr Zelenskiy on July 25 asking for a “favor” and seeking investigations into a gas company linked to the former vice-president Joe Biden’s family and a disproved conspiracy theory about Ukrainian intrusion in the 2016 election. Meanwhile, Trump had stopped providing security forces to Ukraine which is part of their bilateral agreement.
"We followed the president's orders. He said if we don't follow what he says, then, you know what will happen" Sondland admitted before the committee. Sondland told that they all knew the importance of the US-Ukraine relationship and could not refuse Trump's orders.
On the other side, Laura Cooper also testified against Trump in the same matter. “On July 25th, a member of my staff got a question from a Ukraine embassy contact asking what was going on with Ukraine security assistance,” Cooper was quoted as saying by The Guardian.
Amidst the heated turn of events in the US, Eric Swalwell, the Democratic congressman expressed his views over the testimonies of two US top officials saying it "destroys two of the pillars of the president’s defense”.
