Video: Around 20,000 People Attend Kobe, Gianna Bryant Memorial; Michael Jordan To Kobe's Wife Share Emotional Tribute
Home > News Shots > World newsA month after NBA star Kobe Bryant and his daughter, Gianna, 13, who were killed in a helicopter crash on January 26; a grand memorial service was held at the Staples Centre in Los Angeles. It was an emotional moment for all present there to officially say goodbye.
For the first time, Kobe's widow Vanessa Bryant came out and spoke to the crowd about her loss. Fighting back tears, she described her daughter’s love of sports stating that "Gianna had a sweet grace about her. She was very much like her daddy in that they both like trying new things and master them. They were great teachers. Gianna made us all proud. She still does.”
When talking about Kobe, Vanessa titled him as the MVP of girl dads or MVD (Most Valuable Dad). She asserted that "I couldn’t see him as a celebrity nor just an incredible basketball player. He was my sweet husband and the beautiful father of our children. He was mine. He was my everything. He taught us all valuable lessons about life and sports through his NBA career, his books, his show Detail, and his Punies podcast series. We’re so thankful he left those lessons and stories behind for us.”
Other than Vanessa, NBA legend Michael Jordan too gave an emotional speech at the memorial service. He described their close relationship and his admiration for the basketball star.
There were other stars who also attended it like- retired NBA stars Michael Jordan, Dwyane Wade, and Tim Duncan along with Jennifer Lopez and her fiance retired baseball player Alex Rodriguez and Jimmy Kimmel. While, Beyonce and Alicia Keys performed and paid their respect.
Earlier in the week, Kobe Bryant's wife announced that she will be suing the owner of the helicopter in which Kobe, her daughter and seven other people were killed in the crash. Watch the emotional videos below:
