Russia to Launch COVID-19 Vaccine on Aug 12; How the Vaccine Works and Possible Side-Effects – Details Here!

The Gamaleya Research Institute and the Russian Defence Ministry together, have developed this vaccine. Alexander Gintsburg, the director of the research centre has said that the vaccine used “inanimate particles created on the basis of adenovirus.”

“The particles and objects that can reproduce their own kind are the ones that are considered alive. The particles in question cannot multiply," he said. Further, the vaccine will not cause any harm to a person’s health condition. But, he added that some people might have a natural response to the vaccine by developing a fever as a “side-effect”. He ascertained that the fever can be very easily treated by taking paracetamol.

Reports have suggested that the researchers at the institute including the Director, had tried the vaccine on themselves.

The Russian Health Minister said that the medical workers will receive the vaccine this month. The industrial production of the vaccine will begin as early as September.

While the speedy discovery of the vaccine is on one hand, several scientists fear that skipping or shortening the period of testing the vaccine might cause danger. Dr Anthony Faucit, top US Infectious Diseases specialist released a note of caution “I do hope that the Chinese and the Russians are actually testing a vaccine before they are administering the vaccine to anyone, because claims of having a vaccine ready to distribute before you do testing I think is problematic at best.”
