Home > News Shots > World newsIn a horrifying case, a roller coaster ride in an adventure park became a nightmare for all riders who were enjoying the moment after they were left trapped in it 100 feet in the air as the ride malfunctioned.
The name of the roller coaster is The Smiler and the incident took place at Alton Towers in England.
As per The Sun reports, for more than 20 minutes, riders were left hanging in the air on the ride. This horrifying video was shared by Terry Brooks, where the riders could be seen stationed vertically on the tracks due to the malfunction.
Minutes after the mishap, engineers were called who freed the people from the ride. Dylan Fryers was one of the riders who got stuck; on being free he told The Sun- "I was with my two friends when the ride suddenly stopped as it was going up the vertical part. We didn’t know what had happened and we weren’t moving. The wait was quite painful while everybody on The Smiler was nervous."
"We were up there for more than 20 minutes and neck and shoulders started hurting because of the harness. People were nervous but everyone was trying to keep talking to reassure each other that everything was going to be OK," shocked Dylan added.
Highlighting over the same, a spokesman for the Alton Towers apologised for this mishap stating that, "We apologise to all guests affected by the stoppage on The Smiler late this afternoon. Our guest relations team have spoken to everyone on board to offer return tickets to the park as compensation for the inconvenience."
"Our technical team are working to reset the ride this evening so this should not affect guests visiting the park tomorrow," spokesman further added.
