Nurse kills husband by using eye drops
Home > News Shots > World newsLana Sue Clayton, a woman in South Carolina, United States, was sentenced to 25 years in prison for poisoning her husband to death by mixing eye drops in drinking water over a three-day period in 2018, reports The New York Times. Lana, 53, a former nurse was found guilty of having murdered her husband, Stephen D Clayton, 64, at their home, court officials say. An arrest warrant quotes her as admitting that she gave the poison to him.
“I did impulsively put the Visine (a common eye drops medication) in Steven’s drink, but I just did it to make him uncomfortable. I never thought it would kill him,” Lana told the court. Domestic abuse is cited to be the reason behind Lana’s cruel act.
Her lawyer told the court that Lana had initially intended to kill herself and added that she suffered from severe Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, most commonly known as PTSD. However, the court refused to buy the argument and sentenced her to 25 years in prison for voluntary manslaughter and a tampering charge that came with 20 years.
