Mother Faces Prison After Saving Children From Massive House Fire
Home > News Shots > World newsIn a shocking and bizarre case, a mother from North Korean faces possible jail after saving her two children from a house fire, but allowing portraits of North Korea's leaders to burn.
The woman is currently under investigation by the country's Ministry of State Security. As per Daily Mail reports, the fire broke out in a home which was shared by two families in Onsong County, North Hamgyong province. When the incident happened, both sets of parents had gone out but they rushed back to save their families after being alerted in the nick of time.
According to North Korean law, every household must hang portraits of past leaders Kim Il-Sung and Kim Jong-Il, the officials also make timely inspection to see if the work is done. If anyone fails to do so, they face serious punishment!
Meanwhile, a local newspaper Daily NK reported that, the mother will face a lengthy prison with hard labour if found guilty; which means she cannot tend to her children in the hospital nor take care of them. When media contacted eyewitness; they said they were eager to help, but stayed away fearing that the woman could be charged with a political crime.
