A man, who went to sleep after leaving his power bank to charge near his head, was left with serious burns after the lithium-ion power bank exploded. The incident took place in Hubei Province's Wuhan in China on Sunday morning when the external battery charging his smartphone suddenly burst into flames.

He woke in pain to find the back of his head covered in blood and sought treatment. Doctors treated the man for severe burns to his scalp and neck covering 80 square centimetres. The victim said he had fallen asleep while playing mobile games.

He also admitted that he accidentally left the battery covered in bedding, which likely caused it to overheat.
