Amid speculations about his ill health and death reports, North Korean leader Kim Jong Un made his first public appearance after he was captured cutting the ribbon at the opening of a fertilizer factory.

This news broke headlines after North Korean state media- the Korean Central News Agency reported the event and shared photos where Kim Jong Un appeared at a ceremony in the city of Sunchon. 

As per News Agency AFP, Kim attended the event on Friday in Sunchon, near the capital Pyongyang. He had not made any public appearance since presiding over a Workers' Party politburo meeting on April 11 after which rumours took over stating that the leader was seriously ill or possibly dead.

During his absence, there were a series of unconfirmed reports over his health conditions that triggered global fears over the North Korea's Kingdom.  

Meanwhile, the Korean Central news agency reported that during the event, when Kim appeared "all the participants broke into thunderous cheers of 'hurrah!'" Kim inspected the facility and was "briefed about the production processes."

Kim, who stole the thunder at the event "said with deep emotion" that his grandfather Kim Il Sung and father Kim Jong Il "would have been glad if they heard the news that the modern phosphatic fertilizer factory has been built." Along with Kim, his sister and close adviser, Kim Yo Jong was also present at the event. 

Daily NK, an online media outlet which is run by North Korean defectors, reported that Kim was undergoing treatment last month.
