According to reports, a court in Australia on Wednesday sentenced a woman from Kerala to 22 years in prison for murdering her husband with cyanide poison. The woman’s lover, a 36-year-old, got 27 years in prison. In February, both of them were found guilty of fatally poisoning the woman’s husband with cyanide in at their Epping home.

33-year-old Sofia Sam and her lover Arun Kamalasannan conspired together to kill Sofia’ husband Sam Abraham, who was an employee with the UAE Exchange. Sam was given Cyanide-laced Orange juice in October 2015. Sofia claimed that her husband died of heart attack and performed last rites in Kerala where Sam’s body was brought to.

However, Sam’s friends alerted police when she started to live in with Arun after returning to Melbourne. Police arrested Sofia and Arun in August 2016 after an excessive amount of cyanide was found in the victim’s liver and blood and after examining her phone calls.
