'Gay Marriage Saves Lives,' Reveals New Study
Home > News Shots > World newsAfter the legalisation of gay marriage, the suicide rates in same-sex relationships have seen a drop in Denmark and Sweden. As per the Guardian report, homosexual people remain to be the highest in number who take their own lives.
A joint study conducted by researchers from Stockholm University and the Danish Research Institute compared the ratio of suicide rates between same-sex and heterosexual relationships in the periods 1989-2002 and 2003-2016.
According to the study, the number of suicides among same-sex couples reduced to 46% to that of heterosexual couples who amount to only 28%. Therefore, increasing Gay marriage has been saving lives.
The same report suggests that though the suicide rate among homosexual marriage reduced, the number keeps increasing among non-married people. As per 2018 report, 35 studies from 10 countries reveal that LGBT+ people commit suicide at least three times more than straight people.
