The women in Saudi Arabia are full of cheers as the Kingdom officially lifted the ban on women driving on Sunday. Notably, the country is the last in the world to have officially ended the longstanding ban. The decision to lift the ban was announced last September.
Earlier, the activists who campaigned for the right to drive and to end the ban were arrested and jailed. The move has come as a huge relief for women who either had to take public transport or hire a private chauffeur to work or anywhere they want to go.
The Saudi authorities began to issue licences to women drivers early this month. Men in the Kingdom thumbs up to the change, while some men are still opposed to the decision, say reports.
