"It will Take 4-5 Years..." - Serum Institute of India 'Opens Up' on Vaccination! Details
Home > News Shots > World newsAccording to recent claims, the vaccine to fight the new novel coronavirus infection will be ready soon. However, there are several new concerns around the development and distribution of a vaccine.
Developing and identifying an effective and safe vaccine is only one part of the deal, reveal scientists. Administering the vaccine and ensuring that it reaches all, seems to be the part which will take a prolonged period of time. Although all the pharmaceutical companies and producers are already in line to deliver the vaccine as soon as it is declared safe, experts reveal that it will be long before everyone is safely vaccinated. Poonawallah, who is currently working alongside the Serum Institute of India in driving the race for vaccine development, has revealed that it will take close to five years to achieve the same. “Its going to take four to five years until everyone gets the vaccine on this planet,” he said.
Poonawallah also added that the world must not rely upon the vaccine solely as there might not be enough dosages for all. Hence, strategizing the delivery is needed. “I still don’t see a proper plan on paper to do that (in India) beyond 400 million doses. You don't want a situation with the vaccine where you have the capacity for your country but you can’t consume it.”
Adding and substantiating to this claim, the World Health Organisation added that a proper distribution channel for the vaccine will take over three years to work.
