"Control Your Periods," Teacher Tells 14-Year-Old Girl; Denies Permission to go to Bathroom!
Home > News Shots > World newsA shocking incident where a 14-year-old girl was asked to control her periods and not allowed to go to the bathroom was reported in England's Dursley.
The girl, Maisie-Rae Adams, claimed that her teacher refused to allow her bathroom break during class. Hence she was forced to leave the class to go to the bathroom. But when she came back, the teacher refused to let her in.
The class seemed to be in shock at what happened. I grabbed my pad and went to the toilet. When I tried to come back into the classroom the teacher told me that my bag was in another room and I could not go back to class,” said Maisie. She also said she has already been given three detentions earlier.
Her mother said, “Maisie felt humiliated and embarrassed and it is horrible what happened to her. She should never have had a detention for needing to go to the toilet during her period.”
However, the school said that it is not how it is interpreted and that the school has a pink card rule where girls can show the card to the teacher and go for breaks.
Her mother said that Maisie was not aware of this and that the taboo around periods should be broken.
Recently, in India's Jharkhand, teenagers came together to paint a tree on a wall to break the taboo related to menstrual period, with the trunk of the tree in the form of a woman with girls swinging, climbing and reading by the tree.
In 2017, a 12-year-old girl in Tamil Nadu killed herself after the teacher humiliated her for staining her uniform with period blood.
There are still people around the world unaware of what is happening to their body, to a woman's body, when she is on her periods.
