According to reports, a boat carrying about 180 refugees capsized in Tunisia on Saturday night, killing 48. Reportedly, the coast guard could only rescue 67 refugees. The rescue mission on Sunday had to be put on hold and will reportedly resume on Monday again.

The boat overturned near the tourist island of Kerkenna. The captain of the ship reportedly fled the scene in fear of getting arrested by the coast guard.

Many migrants leave Tunisia and other neighbouring African countries in search of employment in Europe. In a similar incident on Sunday, nine people died after a speedboat capsized near the shores of Turkey.
