At least five killed in shooting at US media office

According to reports, at least five staff members were killed and many others were injured after a gunman went on a rampage at a newspaper office in Annapolis, the capital of Maryland in US on Thursday. Police arrested the suspect after the attack at the office of Capital Gazette, which produces a number of local newspapers.

The accused, 38-year-old Jarrod W. Ramos had a long history of conflict with the newspaper chain, says The New York Times. The man had also sued journalists of the media outlet for defamation and waged a social media campaign against them.

The gunman entered the building with a shotgun and fired through a glass door into the newsroom, say reports. Describing the situation as being ‘like a war zone’, Phil Davis, a courts and crime reporter at the Capital Gazette, said that the staff members were hiding under their desks even after the shooting stopped.
