Coronavirus Death Toll: Is 24,589 the Actual Number? Accidental Leak by Chinese Website Creates Panic!
Home > News Shots > World newsFor quite some time, questions have been raised about the veracity of the infections and deaths in China regarding Coronavirus. Now, a Chinese media conglomerate for a brief period had different figures – widely leading to believe that this might have been the actual figures.
On February 1, the Tencent webpage showed confirmed cases of the Wuhan virus in China as standing at 154,023, 10 times the official figure at the time. It listed the number of suspected cases as 79,808, four times the official figure.
The number of cured cases was only 269, well below the official number that day of 300. The death toll listed was 24,589, vastly higher than the 300 officially listed that day.
However, very soon Tencent updated the figures to reflect the ones the government has been giving out. Some netizens believe that Tencent could have two sets of data – the real one and the processed one.
Some believe a coding error could have caused the real number to come out whereas some others believe someone is deliberately trying to leak them.
Some sources are also saying that not everyone in Wuhan, the epicentre of the deadly Coronavirus, has been able to get treated and are dying outside hospitals.
