American lawmakers have introduced a new Legislation in Congress to offer 40,000 green cards to nurses and doctors. The United States has over 12,84,000 positive COVID-19 cases and over 77,000 people have died due to this highly contagious disease. Hence, this new measure is to help the country cope with the crisis.

Indians may get Benefited: 40,000 Green Cards to be Granted as US introduces New Legislation!

These 40,000 green cards were previously approved by the Congress but were not in use. By distributing these green cards, the nurses and doctors are likely to become American citizens, who can serve in the United States for a prolonged period of time. The Legislation has decided that it will send 25,000 green cards to nurses and 15,000 green cards to doctors.

"We need all hands on deck to address this generational crisis," Congress Woman Finkenauer said.

"We know this virus will not magically disappear and experts like Dr Anthony Fauci are warning of a second wave this fall. Rural areas, which make up much of my district, remain especially vulnerable and are already experiencing a shortage of medical professionals," she said.

This move is likely to benefit a large number of Indian nurses and doctors who are either on H-1B or J2 visas.

"Physicians fighting COVID-19 are eager to hear these words: reinforcements are on the way. Recapturing 15,000 unused immigrant visas for physicians through the Healthcare Workforce Resilience Act would ease the burden on frontline physicians, who are risking their lives in understaffed hospitals," said the President of the American Medical Association, Patrice A Harris.
