Video: 35 People Killed, 48 Injured In Stampede At Funeral Procession For Qassem Soleimani
Home > News Shots > World newsIn a sad and shocking case, a stampede had erupted at a funeral procession for Iranian general, who was killed in a US airstrike last week. The stampede killed 35 people and injured 48 others says Iranian state television.
As per Associated Press (AP) report, the stampede took place in Kerman, the hometown of General Qassem Soleimani. Few videos went viral on social media showing people lying lifeless on a road while others shouting and trying to help them.
Meanwhile, Pirhossein Koulivand, the head of Iran's emergency medical services confirmed that the stampede had taken place. "Unfortunately as a result of the stampede, some of our compatriots have been injured and some have been killed during the funeral processions," he said.
On Monday, the procession drew over 1 million people on the streets in Tehran. After Soleimani's death, the angry mob demanded revenge against America for killing their leader. But, the US blamed him for the killing of American troops in Iraq and accused him of plotting new attacks just before his death.
According to BBC reports, Soleimani had led forces in Syria backing President Bashar Assad. Watch the video below:
