WhatsApp finally rolls out group video, voice calling feature for Android, iOS

Facebook-owned messaging app WhatsApp has finally rolled out group video and voice calling feature on both Android and iOS platforms. The group calling supports up to four people at the same time. WhatsApp had announced the feature in May this year at its annual F8 developer conference.

To use the group calling feature, users have to start a video or voice call with one of the contacts. Following this, a button placed at the top-right corner of the screen allows users to add another contact to the call. A person can add up to three contacts which makes a total of four members for a video call.

The group calling feature has been a highly-anticipated feature by a large number of WhatsApp users in the country. The new feature is designed to work under slow network conditions and all calls are end-to-end encrypted, WhatsApp reportedly said.

WhatsApp, in a blog post, said, “Over the last couple years, people have enjoyed making voice and video calls on WhatsApp. In fact, our users spend over 2 billion minutes on calls per day. We’re excited to announce that group calls for voice and video are coming to WhatsApp starting today.”
