The recent WhatsApp update has opened up a new space to move a step ahead for better privacy or at least created a discussion among overtly privacy-seeking digital users.

New WhatsApp Update: No More "You were added" Notification without Permission

The new update lets you control unknown or unsaved persons in your contact from not adding your number in groups. This means only the persons who you have in your contact list or approve can add your number in newly created groups.

Users can make use of this personalisation via Settings > Account > Privacy > Groups. You would see the drop-down options such as "Everyone", "My Contacts" or "My Contacts Except". Based on your preference, your privacy will be adjusted, thus controlling people from not adding your number in groups which may not be of your interest.

Therefore if someone who is not in your personalisation list wants to add you to a group, the person can send a private invite link which you can either accept or leave as it is. "With these new features, users will have more control over the group messages they receive. These new privacy settings will begin rolling out to some users starting today and will be available worldwide in the coming days to those using the latest version of WhatsApp” , BusinessLine quoted one WhatsApp statement in its report.
