It was decided on Thursday that Samsung must pay Apple $539 million for reportedly stealing features from the iPhone. The legal battle had been taking place since 2011. According to Apple, Samsung became the world's leading smartphone developer after it ripped off features from iPhone.
Even though it was agreed that Samsung could have made use of certain patented features of iPhone, the amount owed by the company was not decided. In 2012, it was even determined that Samsung should pay $1.5 billion. However, the decision was later changed.
It was finally decided that Samsung should pay $539 million as compensation. Apple reportedly said in a statement, "This case has always been about more than money. Apple ignited the smartphone revolution with iPhone and it is a fact that Samsung blatantly copied our design.”
