Rowdy Niravi Murugan shot dead in encounter

Niravi Murugan (age 45) hailed from Neeravimedu near Puthiamputhur in Thoothukudi district. The popular rowdy had been booked in more than 60 cases including kidnapping, murder and robbery at police stations in various districts including Chennai, Tuticorin and Erode. There are cases against Niravi in other states as well including Gujarat.
He along with his accomplice have been involved in robberies in various parts of Erode district. Bhavani police have registered a case and are looking for the Niravi gang.
The police had received information that Niravi was hiding in a house on the Ganesha Temple Street, Nellai District. Following this, the police led by Inspector Devendran raided the house where the gang was hiding.
It is said that the gang including Niravi Murugan tried to get into a car and escape. But the car got stuck on a roadside sewer and the car was immediately surrounded by police.
When the car was surrounded by police, Murugan reportedly tried to injure the officers with a scythe, according to them. And thereby, it resulted in shooting the rowdy and he was killed in the encounter by the cops. The police have arrested the driver of the car, Maria Raghunath, while the others fled from the scene.
