Home > News Shots > Tamil Nadu newsDespite the thousands of jobs, workload, and stress that surrounds us, the excitement of drinking a cup of hot tea at any time is a completely different feel. Small portable tea shops in Chennai are popular amongst the people who badly wants to sip on to a cup of tea.
Our Behindwoods team met these midnight tea vendors who sell homemade tea that are mostly set up on cycles.
Sleep
A tea vendor says, "There is no such thing as a comfortable night's sleep in our house," said he could only sleep for a maximum of 3 to 5 hours after starting this business. He stated that he intends to set up his own tea shop and that he has been doing this business all night long due to lack of financial resources.
In the video, another man can be seen saying that he goes to his work during the day time and sells tea at night because of a home loan. He says, "I have somehow managed to earn 23 lakh so far, and I have never borrowed money yet. And this is how I wish to raise my children."
Corona
How did you face your life during the Corona pandemic? When asked, another tea vendor said, "The income was meagre at that time. So i was staying at my friend's place and he was the one who bought me food."
Talking about the income from this business, the night time tea vendors said that they earn approximately 500 to 600 rupees a day and invest it and start the next day's business.
Problem
These sellers, who say there are problems with this, sometimes say that they send money on GPay and that some people cheat and that some people get drunk and push the tea-can down and create trouble.
Do you complain about people getting into trouble like this? When asked, "Complaining hurts the business and that's what we live for" is a testament to their determination to overcome obstacles in life.
