Vellore to Chennai - Youth’s heart shifted in 3 hour for transplantation!
Home > News Shots > Tamil Nadu newsCongratulations to the ambulance driver who brought the heart of a young man from Tirupati to Chennai on time.
Dinakaran hails from Madanancheri area next to Vaniyambadi in Tirupati district. The 21-year-old has been working as a laborer. In this situation, on the 29th, Dinakaran was involved in an accident while going to Vaniyambadi on a two wheeler. Dinakaran was admitted to the CMC Private Hospital in Vellore. However, doctors said yesterday that Dhinakaran had suffered a brain hemorrhage. Following this, Dinakaran's relatives donated his heart, kidneys and liver to another person.
Dinakaran's heart was to be transplanted to a patient at the Apollo Hospital on Greenways Road, Chennai. Thus it was planned to bring the heart from Vellore to Chennai by land. Velmurugan, who has four years of experience in transporting body parts quickly in such emergencies, took up the task. It usually takes 3 hours to travel from Vellore to Chennai. Velmurugan has completed the 150 km journey in an hour and a half and brought his heart safely to Chennai.
Usually in a situation like this the heart has to be implanted in someone else's body within three hours of being taken out of the body. Specialized ICU ambulances will be used for this purpose. It will have two technicians and two medical staff. A team of heart transplant surgeons will be on duty at the hospitals that are first allowed to remove the heart from the patient's body. This team will find out if there is any difficulty in fitting that heart to others. The heart will then be donated. If it is a private hospital, it must have special permission from the government to perform organ transplants.
Police will monitor the roads on which the ambulance travels while transporting organs from one place to another in such emergencies. He will fix the traffic on that road and make way for the ambulance to travel quickly. This is called the Green Corridor. As Dinakaran's heart was being carried, more than 50 policemen were deployed to the Ranipettai district boundary to clear the traffic and move the ambulance quickly.
As a result, Dhinakaran's heart from Vellore was successfully implanted in the body of a man who had been treated at Apollo. Ambulance driver Velmurugan has been lauded by various quarters for bringing his heart to Chennai in a timely manner.
