Why is Chennai Corporation reducing Containment Zones amidst rising COVID19 Cases? Report
Home > News Shots > Tamil Nadu newsDespite the rise in number of COVID19 cases, the Greater Chennai Corporation decided to reduce the number of containment streets to 64 on Thursday.
Out of the 64 containment zones, 24 are in Tondiarpet and 15 fall under the Kodambakkam zone.In spite of reporting the highest number of cases, Royapuram has only three containment zones (streets). Similarly, Thiru Vi Ka Nagar, a containment zone that has reported an exponential rise in number of COVID19 cases, has only 3 containment zones.
Tiruvottiyur, Manali, Madhavaram, Valasaravakkam, Alandur and Adyar zones do not have any containment zones. “We are converting areas and streets where a huge number of cases are reported as a part of cluster containment plan,” an official said.
Meanwhile, GCC announced that it will be checking the oxygen levels of residents with pulse oxymeters.
“We have distributed 10,000 infrared thermal scanners and 1,000 pulse oxymeters. Oxymeters have been given to the workers in Tondiarpet, Royapuram and Thiru Vi Ka Nagar zones and we are planning to distribute the devices to all the remaining zones,” a Chennai Corporation press release said.
