Water Supply Will Be Affected For 15 Days In Chennai: Check Area & Details!
Home > News Shots > Tamil Nadu newsAs Chennai Metrowater plans to take up work at the Nemmeli desalination plant, piped water supply to several areas in south Chennai will be affected for 15 days. The work begins from March 17.
The Nemmeli desalination plant which has a capacity to treat 100 million litres of seawater a day, will fix the travelling band screen and a self-cleaning screen in the seawater intake structure at the plant.
According to a Hindu report, the work will begin between 6:00 a.m. on March 17 to 6 :00 a.m. on April 1. Due to the work, piped water supply will be affected to localities like Thiruvanmiyur, Kottivakkam, Perungudi, Adyar, Velachery, Besant Nagar, Mandaveli, Sholinganallur and Neelankarai.
Meanwhile, the Metrowater officials stated that the maintenance work was taken up to manually remove materials such as shells and molluscs from the seawater unit. “Water sources are in a better position compared to last year. So It was decided to fit the screen that will automatically remove the materials, every day. This will help decrease the number of shutdown days for maintenance,” said an official.
