The Court has rather modified them to life imprisonment for a minimum of 25 years without any right to remission.

As per Times of India (ToI) report, a bench of Justice M Sathyanarayanan and M Nirmal Kumar also acquitted the prime accused B Chinnaswamy, father of Kausalya. The Court has relieved him from all the charges including that of criminal conspiracy.

Meanwhile, all the acquitted involved have been ordered to be released if their custody is not required in connection with any other case.

The horrifying story dates back to March 13, 2016 when Shankar was hacked to death by a three-member gang. He was a dalit and native of Kumaralingam near Udumalpet, who fell in love with non-dalit Kausalya.

They fell in love while studying in a private engineering college in Pollachi. They got married against the wishes of her parents.
