According to reports, a shopkeeper at a popular medical shop was attacked by two youths, who demanded intoxicating sleeping tablets, in Singaperumal Koil near Chengalpattu in Kanchipuram district. The shopkeeper Marimuthu was alone at the shop around 11 pm on Monday when the incident happened.


Two youths entered the shop and demanded some intoxicating drug from Marimuthu. However, Marimuthu reportedly said that the drug is not available and, even if it’s available, he can supply it only with doctor’s prescription. Enraged over his reply, they started attacking him. One of the two youths grabbed a scissor and stabbed Marimuthu’s hand. The video of the incident also shows the shopkeeper being attacked on the head repeatedly with a phone receiver.


Then, the duo scanned the shop for the availability of any intoxicating drug. However, they couldn’t find any. After attacking the shopkeeper, they robbed Rs 33,000 in cash from the medical shop and fled the spot. Maraimalai Nagar police are probing the incident.
