Man hangs himself with underwear while in police custody

A 45-year-old government employee, Sitrarasu who was reportedly detained for assaulting his neighbor, hanged himself to death while in custody of the Chunambedu police in Kancheepuram early on Wednesday. Police officers in the station reportedly said that the man went to the washroom when there was a power cut and using his underwear, he hung himself from the bolt in the washroom door.

A police officer reportedly admitted that policemen at the station did not let Sitrarasu go home at night because he appeared to be in a disturbed state of mind and used abusive and threatening language while speaking about his neighbor.
