Local Body Elections Announced in Tamil Nadu after 3 Years; Complete Details Listed
Home > News Shots > Tamil Nadu newsThe State Election Commission of Tamil Nadu announced the dates for the Local Body Elections after 3 years. The official reports state that the local body polls will be held in two phases on December 27 and December 30.
The nominations for the elections will begin on December 6 and end on December 13. The last date to withdraw the nominations is on December 18. The vote counting to elect village panchayats, municipalities and corporations followed by the announcement of results will be on January 2, 2020.
Later the first representatives meeting will be held on January 6 as per the announcement by Election Commission. The local body elections were due for a long time since October 2016.
The DMK government filed a plea at the Supreme Court to postpone the polls until reservation and delimitation of newly created wards in the districts- Tenkasi, Kallakurichi, Tirupattur, Ranipet and Chengalpet are completed.
The local body polls will see likes of various parties including AIADMK, DMK and AMMK. It has to be mentioned that the AIADMK is in an alliance with BJP, PMK and the DMDK.
