In the wake of 'Janta Curfew' to be observed on March 22, Tamil Nadu chief minister Edappadi K Palaniswami announced that state transport corporation buses and Chennai Metro trains won't be functioning from 7:00 am to 9:00 pm this Sunday in the state.

He also requested people to stop 'panic buying and believing in rumours'. The Chief Minister further urged the state to come forward and observe 'Janta Curfew'.

According to a Times of India (ToI) report, the Chief Minister issued a press statement after attending videoconferencing with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Soon after the meeting, Palaniswami announced that private transport operators and owners of mini-buses have been asked to extend support and not operate their vehicles on the concerned date. 

Further giving guidelines over COVID-19, Palaniswami urged people to stay indoors and stay healthy especially for citizens above 60 years of age. 

Highlighting over other issues, the Chief Minister stated that all public and private libraries will also be closed till March 31. Even inter-state services by buses and trains will be put on hold for few days.
