Tamil Nadu School Education Department has approached software giant Microsoft to create a Tamil version of MS-office, T Udhayachandran, secretary of School Education Department, said on Friday, reports The New Indian Express.
The department had also asked for an exclusive search engine in the language which could help promote internet-based development of education, he told at World Tamil Internet Conference at the Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU) in Coimbatore.
In return for MS Word in Tamil, the department had given an assurance that it was ready to buy five lakh laptops from the company Udhayachandran reportedly said. He also reportedly added that the Tamil versions will enable school children to easily learn the software in their mother tongue.
