Is Tamil Nadu Under the Spell of COVID-19 Community Spread? CM Palaniswami Responds – Details

Tamil Nadu has registered a total of 3.61 lakh coronavirus cases as on August 20. Lately the total number of daily coronavirus cases have been lesser than six thousand. Citing certain numbers, the Chief Minister, Edappadi Palaniswami has said that the situation is completely under control.

Yesterday a total of 75,076 people were tested and a total of 5,986 people tested positive for the infection. The numbers have been consistent for almost a month now. The total number of positive cases have been 3,61,435 and the grand total of recovered patients is 3,01,913. The recovery numbers have been a sigh of relief.

Further, over five thousand people are recovering from the infection from across the state on a daily basis. Around 6,239 people have succumbed to the disease despite treatment and the everyday numbers are above one hundred.

While many are fearing that Tamil Nadu might be under the spell of a community spread of the novel coronavirus infection, CM Palaniswami cleared up saying that the situation is not bad when compared to the other states across the country. He went on to say that the increase in testing numbers is the reason for lower infections.

He said, “As far as Tamil Nadu is concerned, around 68,000 tests are being conducted every day. Only 6,000 or lesser samples are positive for the coronavirus infection. These continuous raise in testing numbers is proof that the situation is under control.

“When compared with the other states, the infection spread here is not bad. Tamil Nadu has all the required medical facilities to cater to the medical needs of those testing positive. Further, the government is taking all possible measures to control the situation and we request the citizens to cooperate.”
