An audio clip of allegedly a professor suggestively inviting four college students for prostitution is widely shared on social media and messaging apps such as WhatsApp. Nirmala Devi, assistant professor, department of mathematics at Devanga Arts College, Aruppukottai of Virudhunagar district, is the one who has run into the controversy. Though the voice in the audio clip didn’t specifically mention, it is understood that she was asking for sexual favours from the students for “higher officials” of Madurai Kamaraj University. In the alleged audio clip, she also assures them of 85% marks with monetary benefits. Reports suggest that Nirmala Devi has been suspended and is at large.
