CM Edappadi Palaniswami announces Rs 1,000 crore as relief for cyclone-hit districts
Home > Tamil Nadu newsLast week, Cyclone Gaja struck Tamil Nadu, wreaking havoc on the state. According to reports, TN Chief Minister Edappadi Palaniswami has ordered a relief of Rs 1,000 crore for the affected districts.
Officials from various departments held a detailed meeting on Monday and later made the announcement. The CM sanctioned Rs 5,000 for families that lost their homes to the cyclone, Rs 3,800 for the purchase of utensils and clothes and Rs 5,000 for damaged boats.
Compensation for lost cattle was also announced. Rs 30,000 for cows and buffaloes, Rs 25,000 for oxen and Rs 15,000 for calves. Nagapattinam, Tiruvarur, Thanjavur and Pudukkottai districts will receive Rs 5 crore, Dindigul district will receive Rs 2.5 crore and Sivaganga, Ramanathapuram, Karur, Tiruchi and Theni district administrations would get Rs 1 crore each.
The CM also announced that the State has requested the central government for the release of funds. Reportedly, the CM will also conduct an aerial survey of the state on Tuesday to analyse the degree of damage caused by the cyclone.
