The most awaited festival of lights is around the corner and people are excited to wear new clothes as well as burn crackers with family and friends. The festival of lights will be celebrated on Sunday, October 27.

So keeping in mind about the pollution in the city, the Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board (TNPCB) has issued guidelines and time period which has to be followed on the day of Diwali.

The TNPCB has fixed two time slots for people to burst crackers first is from 6:00 am to 7:00 am and between 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm.

According to India Today reports, the TNPCB would monitor the air pollution in all the municipal corporations on the day of the festival and even after that. 

The agency also stated that, strict action would be taken against those who will burst crackers exceeding the time limit. 

"Low decibel crackers should be used and bursting of crackers should be avoided near hospitals and places of worship. Crackers must also be avoided in inflammable areas and localities with huts," was said in a statement that was released by the TNPCB. 

Concerned over the people who would travel to their natives for the festival, the state government has declared a local holiday on October 28.

Meanwhile, the state transport will operate over 10,000 buses from Chennai to various parts of the state which will begin on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
