New claim by Thoothukudi sterlite factory

After Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board (TNPCB) refused to renew the license of Vedanta Sterlite’s copper smelter unit in Thoothukudi, the company on Thursday claimed before the TNPCB that it was a non-polluting industry and the consent-to-operate renewal application was rejected, based on inaccurate and cooked-up grounds by the pollution board.

The management of the factory claimed that the TNPCB acted based on newspaper reports and not on the certificates that the management has produced.

Reportedly, Sterlite pays the pollution board every month to do the groundwater analysis. All reports are available with the board.
