Thoothukudi police firing: Madras HC rejects TN govt’s plea to return dead bodies

The Madras High Court on Thursday reportedly rejected the Tamil Nadu government’s plea demanding the return of the bodies of those who were killed in police firing in Thoothukudi to their relatives. Refusing to return the bodies to relatives, the court slammed the state government why it cares when the relatives are not asking for bodies.

Rejecting the state’s claim that the relatives asked for the return of the bodies of the deceased, the HC also ordered that the autopsy reports of the bodies should be submitted on May 30. The court also directed the petitioners, three lawyers, to file a reply on the state government’s plea.

The government said that post-mortem has been conducted on only two bodies so far. Earlier, the Madras HC had ordered to preserve the bodies of the deceased until the next order.
