The state of Tamil Nadu has reportedly cured 6,000 novel coronavirus cases using Siddha therapy. The traditional method of Siddha medicine is being used to treat patients in the state for over a couple months now.

Jawahar Vidyalaya and Dr Ambedkar Givernement Arts College in Vyasarpadi are two facilities where the Siddha treatment is being given. This treatment is however, only permitted for asymptomatic patients. As on August 7, they have announced that together they have treated nearly 3,200 patients in Chennai alone.

Further, they have also reported that around 434 patients are currently undergoing treatment in these two centres. Apart from the facilities in Chennai, several districts present in Tamil Nadu are also following this traditional way of treating viruses. Around 715 patients are undergoing treatment from the other districts in the state.

There are exclusive centres in Vellore, Ranipet, Tenkasi, Coimbatore, Tiruvannamalai, Thirupathur, Villupuram, and so on. Two recent facilities were inaugurated in Pudukottai and Salem.

Earlier, the state government had permitted the use of Siddha treatment and had ordered Kabasura Kudineer to be an immunity booster. The herbal concoction was recommended by the government, in order to help people build their immunity and combat the spread of the new deadly virus. Adding to this, Chief Minister Palaniswami also launched Arokyam, a special programme to fight against the infection, by partnering with AYUSH.
