While responding to spiritual leaders Baba Ramdev and Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev’s views against the closure of the Sterlite copper smelter in Tuticorin, Tamil Nadu fisheries minister D Jayakumar has reiterated the government’s stand against the re-opening of the smelter, says an NDTV report.
The government has taken a firm stand and it does not care about the views expressed by Ramdev and Jaggi Vasudev, the minister reportedly said. He also stressed that the plant has been permanently shut down.
The Isha Yoga founder, in an interview with CNN News18, spoke against the closure of the plant and later tweeted, “Am not an expert on copper smelting but I know India has immense use for copper. If we don't produce our own, of course we will buy from China. Ecological violations can be addressed legally. Lynching large businesses is economic suicide.”
Yoga guru Baba Ramdev, who met Anil Agarwal, the executive chairman of Vedanta, the parent company of Sterlite Industries, wrote on Twitter, “International conspirators created ruckus at one of Vedanta's plant in South of India through innocent local people. Industries are the temples of development for the nation. They should not be closed.”
